Why the name VeraMetabolic?

The name VeraMetabolic reflects the heart of my practice.

"Vera" is derived from the Latin word meaning "true." It represents our commitment to honest, evidence-based medicine and authentic partnerships with our patients. I believe meaningful change begins with understanding the truth about your health—not through shame, fad diets, or unrealistic expectations, but through science, compassion, and personalized care.

"Metabolic" reflects our focus on improving the underlying systems that influence your health. While weight loss is often an important goal, true metabolic health extends far beyond the number on the scale. By addressing obesity and metabolic dysfunction, we aim to reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, fatty liver disease, and hypertension while helping you build a healthier future.

Together, VeraMetabolic represents our commitment to helping you achieve true metabolic health—one grounded in evidence, sustainability, and whole-person care.

Our Philosophy

At VeraMetabolic, we believe lasting weight loss doesn't come from perfection. It comes from creating a sustainable plan that works within your real life—not someone else's ideal schedule. Our approach is built on several core principles.

Personalized Care Over One-Size-Fits-All

Every person's metabolism, medical history, lifestyle, and goals are different. Your treatment should be too. Whether that includes nutrition coaching, lifestyle changes, medication, or a combination of evidence-based strategies, your plan is individualized to meet you where you are.

Evidence Over Trends

Healthcare professionals don't need another fad diet. They need science. Every recommendation at VeraMetabolic is grounded in current medical evidence and clinical experience—not social media trends or quick fixes. As a physician, my responsibility is to help you understand the "why" behind your treatment so you can make informed decisions with confidence.

Progress Over Perfection

You don't have to eat perfectly. You don't have to exercise every day. You don't have to be "all in" to make meaningful progress. Small, consistent changes lead to lasting results. Our goal isn't perfection—it's sustainability.

Prevention Is Better Than Hospitalization

After years of caring for patients during some of the worst moments of their lives, I've become convinced that the greatest impact happens before someone ever needs to be admitted to the hospital. By treating obesity and metabolic disease early, we have the opportunity to reduce future complications and improve long-term health. Preventive medicine isn't just good medicine. It is the True Medicine.

Compassion Without Judgment

Weight is complex. It is influenced by biology, hormones, sleep, stress, medications, genetics, environment, and countless other factors. You deserve care that recognizes those realities—not blame. At VeraMetabolic, you'll find a supportive, judgment-free environment where you're treated as a whole person, not a number on the scale.

About Dr. Johannie Uy

Dr. Johannie Uy is a board-certified Internal Medicine physician and the founder of VeraMetabolic. Originally from the Philippines, she earned her Doctor of Medicine degree at just 23 years old after training at the University of the Philippines, the country's premier medical school. She completed her internship training at the Philippine General Hospital, the nation's largest government hospital, where she cared for patients from all walks of life and witnessed firsthand the profound impact that poverty, limited access to healthcare, and systemic challenges can have on health outcomes. These formative experiences shaped her belief that prevention and equitable access to quality healthcare are essential to improving lives.

Driven by a desire to broaden her clinical perspective and pursue advanced medical training, Dr. Uy moved to the United States, where she completed her residency in Internal Medicine at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport, Connecticut, in 2017. Since then, she has practiced as a travel hospitalist, providing inpatient care in hospitals across the country. This unique career path has allowed her to work within a wide variety of healthcare systems and care for diverse patient populations while gaining insight into the common challenges facing both patients and healthcare professionals nationwide.

Dr. Uy currently holds active medical licenses in Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, reflecting her broad clinical experience and commitment to serving patients wherever they are needed.
